Vishnu (/ˈvɪʃnuː/; Sanskrit pronunciation: [ʋɪʂɳʊ]; Sanskrit: विष्णु, IAST: Viṣṇu) is likely one of the principal deities of Hinduism, and the Supreme Being or absolute fact in its Vaishnavism custom.[5][6] Vishnu is the “preserver” within the Hindu triad (Trimurti) that features Brahma and Shiva.

In Vaishnavism, Vishnu is similar to the formless metaphysical idea referred to as Brahman, the supreme, the Svayam Bhagavan, who takes varied avatars as “the preserver, protector” every time the world is threatened with evil, chaos, and damaging forces. His avatars most notably embrace Rama within the Ramayana and Krishna within the Mahabharata. He’s also called Narayana, Trilokinath, Ishtadeva, Jagannath, Vasudeva, Vithoba, and Hari. He is likely one of the 5 equal deities worshipped in Panchayatana puja of the Smarta Custom of Hinduism.

In Hindu iconography, Vishnu is normally depicted as having a pale or darkish blue complexion and having 4 arms. He holds a padma (lotus flower) in his decrease left hand, Kaumodaki gada (mace) in his decrease proper hand, Panchajanya shankha (conch) in his higher left hand and the Sudarshana Chakra (discus) in his higher proper hand. A conventional depiction is Vishnu reclining on the coils of the serpent Shesha, accompanied by his consort Lakshmi, as he “goals the universe into actuality
