Many Native American peoples share a perception that they emerged from the earth. For the Hopi and different Pueblo peoples, after they emerge they meet the caretaker of the earth who instructs them to honor Mom Earth by taking good care of her. They’re instructed to stroll to the world’s farthest corners, to be taught the earth with their toes and to search out their Middle Place.
