Samsung J7 Review

108

The Samsung J7 is a budget smartphone that does everything it’s supposed to, with a good camera and decent battery life. However, it’s not the best phone in its price range and lacks key features.

A mid-range Exynos 7870 processor powers the Galaxy J7 with 2GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. That’s insufficient to keep up with the competition, especially in gaming.

Display

The display on the Samsung J7 has a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, which provides a wide viewing angle for watching movies and playing games. The 720p resolution display also comes with an outdoor mode that automatically sets the device’s brightness level to be suitable for outdoor use.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 is a decent value-for-money device with good gaming performance, handles day-to-day usage well, and has excellent battery life. However, it has several flaws, including an uninspired design, appalling build quality, a lowly 720p resolution display, and only 2GB RAM.

Android 7.0 Nougat is the operating system on offer, with version 8.1 of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI (now known as Samsung Experience) layered on top. It lacks the latest updates from Google and Samsung, but you’ll still get the essentials like application permission control and Android Doze mode.

Camera

Regarding smartphone cameras, mid-range devices are gaining much attention with impressive sensors, capable processors, and other promising features. But these feature-packed phones have become a crowded mess, leaving people with fewer options to pick a smartphone that will fulfill their needs.

The Samsung J7 has a 13 MP camera at the back with an f/1.7 aperture that helps it take photos that are crisp and clear in normal lighting conditions. It also has a front-facing 8 MP camera with f/1.9 aperture and LED flash that takes bright selfies.

The rear camera can also capture videos in Full HD resolution without losing many details due to digital stabilization. However, images and videos taken in dark situations look shaky. Fortunately, the camera has HDR mode, which helps compensate for this problem by combining several pictures to make one image with enhanced dynamic range.

Battery

The Samsung J7 is an excellent phone for everyday use, whether on a cross-country road trip or a meeting at your job. You count on it to help you find directions, scan the headlines, and check on friends and family.

Battery life is critical to any smartphone’s performance, and the Samsung Galaxy J7 offers an excellent one. The device is powered by a 3,300 mAh battery that lasts a full day and more with regular usage.

A great feature of the phone is its built-in battery optimization, which aims to extend its life. It does this by limiting background data and governing the phone’s processor. There’s also a “power saving mode” that you can activate when the battery drains quickly.

Performance

Samsung’s J7 is an affordable mid-range smartphone that offers solid value for money. It is powered by the Exynos 7870 octa-core processor and has 3GB of RAM.

It also has a 5.7-inch TFT display that delivers high-resolution images and videos. The display is bright, has good viewing angles, and offers excellent contrast.

The camera performs well, especially in low light conditions, and has good color accuracy. The only thing that lets it down is the lack of image stabilization.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 has a 13-megapixel rear sensor and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. Both the cameras feature autofocus and a flash.
