Shiva (/ˈʃivə/; IAST: Śiva, lit. the auspicious one) is without doubt one of the principal deities of Hinduism. He’s the Supreme Being in Hinduism.[

Shiva is the “destroyer and transformer” within the Trimurti, the Hindu trinity that includes Brahma and Vishnu.[3][4] In Shaivism custom, Shiva is the Supreme being who creates, protects and transforms the universe.[5][6][7] Within the goddess custom of Hinduism referred to as Shaktism, the goddess is described as supreme, but Shiva is revered together with Vishnu and Brahma. A goddess is acknowledged to be the vitality and artistic energy (Shakti) of every, with Parvati the equal complementary companion of Shiva.[8][9] He is without doubt one of the 5 equal deities in Panchayatana puja of the Smarta custom of Hinduism.[1]

On the highest stage, Shiva is thought to be formless, limitless, transcendent and unchanging absolute Brahman,[10] and the primal Atman (soul, self) of the universe.[11][12][5] Shiva has many benevolent and fearsome depictions. In benevolent points, he’s depicted as an omniscient Yogi who lives an ascetic life on Mount Kailash[3] in addition to a householder with spouse Parvati and his two youngsters, Ganesha and Kartikeya. In his fierce points, he’s typically depicted slaying demons. Shiva is also called Adiyogi Shiva, thought to be the patron god of yoga, meditation and humanities.[13][14][15]

The primary iconographical attributes of Shiva are the third eye on his brow, the serpent round his neck, the adorning crescent moon, the holy river Ganga flowing from his matted hair, the trishula as his weapon and the damaru. Shiva is normally worshipped within the aniconic type of Lingam.[16] Shiva is a pan-Hindu deity, revered broadly by Hindus, in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Shiva is ‘shakti’ or energy, Shiva is the destroyer, essentially the most highly effective god of the Hindu pantheon and one of many godheads within the Hindu Trinity. Recognized by many names – Mahadeva, Mahayogi, Pashupati, Nataraja, Bhairava, Vishwanath, Bhava, Bhole Nath – Lord Shiva is maybe essentially the most advanced of Hindu deities. Hindus acknowledge this by placing his shrine within the temple separate from these of different deities.
