Shiva Tandava Stotram (शिवताण्डवस्तोत्रम्) is a ‘stotra’ (hymn) that describes Shiva’s energy and wonder. It was sung by the demon king Ravana, a fantastic devotee of Lord Shiva.
TRANSLATION:
Along with his neck, consecrated by the circulation of water flowing from the thick forest-like locks of hair, and on the neck, the place the lofty snake is hanging garland, and the Damaru drum making the sound of Damad Damad Damad Damad, Lord Siva did the auspicious dance of Tandava and will He bathe prosperity on us all. ॥1॥
I’ve a really deep curiosity in Lord Siva, whose head is glorified by the rows of transferring waves of the celestial river Ganga, agitating within the deep properly of his hair-locks, and who has the sensible hearth flaming on the floor of his brow, and who has the crescent moon as a jewel on his head. ॥2॥
Could my thoughts search happiness within the Lord Siva, in whose thoughts all of the residing beings of the fantastic universe exist, who’s the sportive companion of Parvati (daughter of the mountain king), who controls invincible hardships with the circulation of his compassionate look, who’s all-persuasive ॥3॥
Could I search fantastic pleasure in Lord Siva, who’s supporter of all life, who together with his creeping snake with reddish brown hood and with the luster of his gem on it spreading out variegated colours on the gorgeous faces of the maidens of instructions, who is roofed with a glittering higher garment fabricated from the pores and skin of an enormous intoxicated elephant. ॥4॥
Could Lord Siva give us prosperity, who has the moon as his head-jewel, whose hair is tied by the purple snake-garland, whose foot-stool is grayed by the circulation of mud from the flowers from the rows of heads of all of the Gods, Indra/Vishnu and others. ॥5॥
Could we get the wealth of Siddhis from Siva’s locks of hair, which devoured the God of Love with the sparks of the hearth flaming in His brow, who’s bowed by all of the celestial leaders, who is gorgeous with a crescent moon ॥6॥
My curiosity is in Lord Siva, who has three eyes, who has provided the highly effective God of Love into the hearth, flaming Dhagad Dhagad on the flat floor of his brow who’s the only skilled artist of drawing ornamental traces on the bosom of Parvati, the daughter of the mountain king. ॥7॥
Could Lord Siva give us prosperity, who bears the burden of this universe, who is beautiful with the moon, who’s purple carrying the pores and skin, who has the celestial river Ganga, whose neck is darkish as midnight of recent moon evening coated by many layers of clouds. ॥8॥
I pray to Lord Siva, whose neck is tied with the luster of the temples hanging on the neck with the glory of the fully-bloomed blue lotuses which seemed just like the blackness (sins) of the universe, who’s the killer of Manmatha, who destroyed Tripurasuras,who destroyed the bonds of wordly existence, who destroyed sacrifice (Daksha),who destroyed Gajasura, who destroyed the demon Andhaka, and who’s the restrainer of Yama, the God of dying. ॥9॥
I pray to Lord Siva, who has bees flying throughout due to the candy honey from the gorgeous bunch of auspicious Kadamba flowers, who’s the killer of Manmatha, who destroyed Tripuras, who destroyed the bonds of worldly life, who destroyed the sacrifice, who destroyed the demon Andhaka, the killer of the elephants, and who managed the God of dying, Yama. ॥10॥
Lord Siva, whose dance of Tandava is in tune with the sequence of loud sounds of drum making Dhimid Dhimid sounds, who has the hearth on the good brow, the hearth that’s spreading out due to the breath of the snake wandering in whirling movement within the superb sky.॥11॥
When will I worship Lord Sadasiva (eternally auspicious) God, with equal imaginative and prescient in direction of the individuals and an emperor, and a blade of grass and lotus-like eye, in direction of each associates and enemies, in direction of the dear gem and a few lump of filth, in direction of a snake and a garland and in direction of different methods of the world ॥12॥
When will I be comfortable, residing within the hole place close to the celestial river, Ganga, carrying the folded fingers on my head on a regular basis, with my dangerous considering washed away, and uttering the mantra of Lord Siva and devoted within the God with superb brow with vibrating eyes.॥13॥
Whoever reads, remembers and says this finest stotra as it’s stated right here, will get purified for ever, and obtains devotion within the nice Guru Siva. For this devotion, there isn’t a different approach. Simply the mere considered Lord Siva certainly removes the delusion. ॥14॥
