Sirkazhi Govindarajan (Tamil: சீர்காழி கோவிந்தராஜன்; January 19, 1933 – March 24, 1988) was a number one vocalist in Carnatic Music.
Govindarajan, was born at Sirkali, a small city in Madras Presidency (Current day Tamil Nadu) to Siva Chidambaram and Avayambal Ammal. Sirkali was the birthplace of Thirugnanasambandar, one of many Samaya Naalvar and the 63 Nayanmar of the Saiva religion. It was little marvel that he turned a toddler prodigy performing on the Tirupurasundari Temple on the age of eight on the event of the Gnana Paal Competition. His son Sirkazhi G. He graduated from the Tamil Isai School in Chennai in 1949 with the Diploma ‘Isaimani’. He additionally graduated with the Diploma of ‘Sangeetha Vidwan’. On the similar time, he began rigorous coaching (Gurukulavasam) beneath his Guru Sri.Thiruppampuram Swaminatha Pillai, who was then a Professor on the Central School of Carnatic Music, Madras. Throughout this era, 1951–1952, he gained many competitions, carried out by the Sangeetha Vidwat Sabha (Music Academy) and the Rasika Ranjani Sabha. He was the proud recipient of three Gold Medals(First Place) within the austere and hallowed halls of Sangeetha Vidwat Sabha (Music Academy) from Karaikudi Sambasiva Iyer. “Sangeetha Vidwan” Sirkali gained all first locations within the three classes: Apoorva Krithis of Sri Thyagaraja swamigal, Ragam-Thanam-Pallavi, and Tamil Classical Songs.
He was conferred the Padma Shri award by the Authorities of India. The Central School of Carnatic Music was the following establishment for his musical enrichment.
Govindarajan had additionally achieved playback singing in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam movies.[4] Madras College conferred a doctorate (Honoris Causa) on him in 1983. He died in 1988, aged 55.
