Interior design

Located on the west side of Broadway between 44th and 45th Streets, the Astor Hotel was one of New York’s most prestigious hotels. It featured Parisian Beaux-Arts style and a green-copper mansard roof. It was favored by New York’s most influential families.

After its success, the Knickerbocker Hotel was built by other members of the Astor family. The Astor Gallery was designed as a replica of the Crystal Room at Soubise Palace in Paris. It was overshadowed by the main ballroom.

The hotel also features a public bar and bistro that is open to the public. The bar features a timber batten bar and a breeze block fireplace. It also has blackbutt flooring and Kvardt Maharam upholstered booths.

Its public areas include deconstructed portraits lining the walls. Objects like shadowboxed old banks and keys scatter the space.
