Top 5 Tented Camps in Nxabega

Visiting a tented camp is a great way to experience Africa’s wild, unspoiled beauty and wildlife. There are several camps in Nxabega that offer a unique experience, but which one is the best?

Kadizora Camp

Located in Kadizora National Park, Kadizora Camp is a secluded camp that offers big-sky views and a wide variety of activities. Guests can take dug-out mokoro canoes in the Delta waterways and experience the great bird-life of the delta. They can also enjoy open-vehicle safaris in the neighboring plains.

The lodge’s spacious tents are elegantly furnished and equipped with luxurious en-suite bathrooms. Each tent offers exceptional views of the surrounding landscape and Delta. The tents are situated under a canopy of giant marulas, jackalberries, and sycamore figs.

Guests can choose from four standard tents or three luxury tents. All rooms offer spectacular views, and the tents are clean and spacious.

The lodge’s lounge has reading material and comfortable couches, with a glass-topped coffee table. There is also a large fire pit and a decked walkway leading to the swimming pool. A wide array of snacks and beverages are available at the coffee and food bar.

Stanley’s Camp

Located on a private concession in the Okavango Delta, Stanley’s Camp offers the perfect setting for a luxurious safari. It is bordering the Moremi Game Reserve and offers a breathtaking view of the floodplains. The camp is located in an area known for buffalo herds, and offers game viewing opportunities at all times of the day.

Stanley’s Camp features eight traditional safari tents. Each of the tents is individually decorated and has a large private deck. The interiors include an en suite bathroom and a comfortable daybed. There is also an indoor shower, a flush toilet and a hammock. The tents also feature an in-room safe and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Stanley’s Camp is also home to the ‘Living with Elephants’ experience, which includes a picnic lunch with the elephants in the delta. Guests also have the option of an optional four-hour interaction with the elephants. The experience is led by Doug and Sandi Groves, who provide a gentle interaction.

Pom Pom Camp

Located in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Pom Pom Camp offers an excellent combination of wildlife and scenery. This classic canvas-tented camp is surrounded by the beautiful Pom Pom lagoon and floodplain grasslands. Its nine elegant safari tents are set under a canopy of trees.

The main lodge is built of thatch and canvas and contains a bar, lounge area, and boma. It offers spectacular views of the lily-filled lagoon. Guests can also enjoy evening game drives, night walks, and fishing.

The luxury safari tents are built under the surrounding trees and include an en-suite semi-open ablution, bedroom, and sitting area. Each room is equipped with an electronic safe and laundry powder.

At night, guests gather around a campfire to share stories. The dining area features a long communal table.

Jao Camp

Located in the western part of the Okavango Delta, Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp is in a private concession of 70km2 (25 000 acres). The camp is situated on a raised wooden platform and features nine spacious tented suites, all with private verandas. Each suite has an ensuite bathroom with an alfresco shower. The tents are decorated in a chocolate-toned interior. Guests can also look forward to community tours, bush walks and game drives.

The main lodge has an open-sided structure, framed by a lofty thatched roof. It is furnished with comfortable sitting areas and chic tables. The bar is well-stocked with a selection of drinks. Guests can also enjoy massage treatments.

The tented suites are built on elevated wooden decks and each one boasts sweeping views. They are linked to the communal area by wooden walkways. The en suite bathrooms feature a luxuriously appointed shower and alfresco shower.

Kana Kara

Located in a 25000 acre private concession in western Okavango Delta, the Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp boasts some of the best game viewings in the region. This is particularly true of the waterholes at the far end of the concession, where guests can get up close and personal with a wide variety of wildlife.

The Nxabega Okavango tented camp is a semi-permanent tented camp, meaning guests have a home base for the duration of their stay. In the last few years, the camp has made improvements to its facilities, such as new tents and an upgraded dining and bar area. The camp also boasts an on-site swimming pool and a laundry service. Guests can opt for a helicopter transfer on a pre-booked basis.

The name of the camp has no obvious link to its location, but if you are looking to ogle some of the delta’s resident wildlife, the Nxabega Okavango is the way to go.
