Within this excerpt, Dr . Doug Graham discusses his 80-10-10 Diet plan and how many raw fooders overeat fat. It is an excerpt from Dr . Doug Graham’s interview for the Organic Summit Archives, a complete job interview encyclopedia of cutting-edge residing and raw food information.
Kevin Gianni: You discuss the 80-10-10 diet; it is the name of your book. What exactly are some of the main principles? Do you know the 80 and 10-10?
Doug Graham: We had several contests for this book. We have learned from your errors. We asked hundreds, along with hundreds of people. We were left with a list of about sixty games and fought bitterly, involving a staff of about twelve men and women over this title, knowing what should be the concept of this book. And 80-10-10 tells you something, but it will not tell you enough to make you know very well what it is. I agree. It is not like the Sedona diet or something that brings a picture to mind. U honestly do not know if it is acceptable or bad, but the 80-10-10 diet is really what it is approximately.
80-10-10 refers to the three-coral nutritional requirements. Only three nutritional requirements in human physiology, or maybe human nutrition, supply us all with calories. Those are generally carbohydrates, protein and extra fat. Well, in the 80-10-10 diet program, I recommend that a maximum of ten per cent of calories come from healthy proteins and 10 per cent involve calories from fat. For that reason, a minimum of 80 per cent of calories from fat comes from
carbohydrates. And that is within the ultimate simplicity of the 80-10-10 diet. Now, of course, you have to eat sufficient total calories from fat because no diet will work if you do not eat sufficient food and certainly not in the long term. And frequently, people get confused about which. They say, “well, geez, basically eat a banana, and a lettuce leaf and an burnt almond, then I am doing the 80-10-10”. I go, “yes, you might be, but you can not live on which diet”. That would not enable you to get past breakfast.

Kevin: It can just be breakfast.
Doug: It can be breakfast, exactly. And organic food is known that we have to eat more volume than most other people. But humans are funny. People are hilarious. We tend to pat ourselves on the back for things that let us do or for improvements that we are going to make and don’t often make them. As well as we pat ourselves on the back for changes we think we have made, but we really haven’t. And it is a humorous world this way, and so, while everybody knows that pizza is absolutely not healthy food, we develop vegetarian pizza when you go vegetarian. And when
most of us go vegan, we develop vegan pizza. When we head out raw, for our health, most of us still create raw nachos. And in truth, if it seems like pizza and tastes just like pizza, it’s going to digest just like pizza. And it’s likely gonna have the caloric nutrient percentage of pizza. And it is getting hard on our bodies. I am certainly not against it. I am not for or against the item because it is not about correct or incorrect; it’s just the consequences. It can be what you want to have to happen because of eating the food you eat.
To put it differently, it came to me noticeable at a certain point this; essentially, you are on a route in life. And that road, my medical training, I trained as a chiropractic doctor, but through my health-related training, what I learned will be able to predict what highway people are on. And so, when they are on a standard diet and never exercise, or they will take birth control pills and drink a lot of coffee, I believe they know there is an excellent chance that osteoporosis will likely be in their future. If they are ingesting a high-fat diet, we have a perfect chance that some kind
of what is referred to, erroneously, as being a sugar metabolic disorder will likely be in your future. Currently, the middle for Disease Control quotes that almost half of all Americans are either diabetic or pre-diabetic. They point out it will be over 80 per cent of Americans by 2020. They point out that all we have to do is keep doing everything we are doing. Well, everything we are doing is the average American
eats roughly 45 per cent of his high-fat calories when the world authorities usually recommend 10 per cent as the highest. And if we keep carrying out that, we will all become diabetics. The raw fooders, I thought, were doing more effective until I started trying to keep track. After interviewing 5000 raw fooders, I believe pretty comfortable in offering averages, and the average uncooked fooder consumes 65 to be able to 70 per cent of their calories from fat.
Kevin: Wow
Doug: This is practically double the American normal. We are thumbing our nose at the nutritional assistance of all the world’s health professionals. Meanwhile, trying to use some of the facts that they say. So, in particular, it is widespread to hear a new raw food leader declare, you know, you don’t need this much in this nutrient and that nutrient possibly the next nutrient because, seeing that raw fooder, the nutritional value you consume is of a much higher quality. Or, you digest it far better and absorb it far better, which means you get so much more of it.
Very well, if that is, in fact, the truth, why are we eating double the excessive fat as everybody else? Shouldn’t we all eat half-excessive fat and still get all the health benefits? We should not have to be able to double our fat intake. So that was sort of the trial, and that’s what the 80-10-10 diet regime became about to raise awareness, strictly involving the difference between a high excess fat diet and a diet made to meet what the scientific specifications say humans are designed for. It was going out on an arm or leg. I’ve got to tell you since it is so much against the flow.
Kevin: Sure.
Doug: But that may be my job in many ways, never to go against the flow but to take the science and make that user-friendly. That’s what We have always done; those are things I pride myself on being able to do. Rather than taking the connection between this study or that will study because you can prove something in our study. Instead, just what I’ve done is check out what the textbooks unanimously agree with, from medical physiology to sports physiology as well as other types of sports and performance savoir and simply convert that details and apply those details to the raw food diet regime.
Kevin: Yeah, you may or may not have more expertise in answer to this, but On the web just curious. Is there almost any specific study about endurance and raw foods?
Doug: To my knowledge, you will discover no studies about endurance and raw food.
Kevin: Okay.
Doug: There are various experiments about raw food. You can find quite a few studies on fresh food. Most have been shown the inefficacy or the unfeasibility of surviving on a diet and being sure to thrive for a diet predominated calorically by vegetables. And I acknowledge. I agree because to take sufficient calories from fresh vegetables to meet your daily caloric desires, for instance, would necessarily mean eating somewhere near 80 heads of lettuce a day. Well, it just is not done. I am a big organic man. I love my fresh vegetables.
You know, many people are usually animal rights advocates; in addition, I’ve always said that Now I am a vegetable rights supporter. I am thrilled to have a seat and eat tomatoes before the cows come home or are beautifully happy to eat celery live. I do not have to blind it. I favour organic rights, and I eat a significant salad daily. I was raised that way as a child. Feeding on the salad was a routine matter for me. And I have, throughout the last 25 years, been involved in the fresh food movement, and my total commitment to fresh food is now reaching thirty years. I have always recommended that we eat lots of
greens. To my knowledge, I like to recommend we consume more guns, not only on the 80-10-10 diet program but on any of the courses I have ever encouraged. I recommend far more green consumption from the total, fresh, ripe, raw, natural and organic plants than anybody different in the raw food activity. The funny thing is that most people notice me having fruits, and so, they think that’s what it is all about while visiting fact, that is not the case. I like to recommend a huge, as I claim, more significant portion of calorie consumption from greens than any individual else in the raw activity. It is just what they see; you already know what they notice is the berry.
Kevin: There are a lot of people who would likely say that eating many fruits comes with candida issues. It is possible to challenge that, and how could can you overcome some views of that?
Doug: Well, My spouse and I dedicated a chapter during my book to this matter. But I can put it briefly for you, even more, to think of seeing that I could years ago. I agree using everybody who says that having a lot of fruits will bring about candida issues if they take in more fat than they must be, more than they can healthfully take. If they are consuming 30-40-50-60-70, I possess on tape several different natural food leaders proudly saying that they eat 80 per cent of their calories from fat. And that is just fine. For anyone eating 60 or 70% of their calories from fat, well then, you will run into issues with the sugar rate of metabolism. And the most straightforward breakdown of the computer, and I am sorry, only leave out a few details below. If you need more, let me recognize.
But essentially, your sugar is monitored by your mind. Everyone has blood sugar, regardless of what these people eat. I mean, Eskimos residing on blood sugar levels are approximately the same as muscle heads residing on protein powders or even people following the 80-10-10 diet plan. Whether your primary calorie or nutrient is a protein, fat, or carbohydrate doesn’t matter. Everyone has roughly the same glucose levels in health but when all those blood sugar levels start to vary, from a sign that the body cannot maintain the homeostasis that it aims to maintain for us at all times. Therefore our primary method of managing our blood sugar level is
actually through the function of the pancreatic. The pancreas picks away some extra insulin if glucose levels rise because insulin acts as a doormat to push sugar out of the bloodstream towards the cell. It’s relatively simple, but since everyone knows, oil is lubrication, oil coat thing in case there’s more fat in your bloodstream than we’re created to handle; it not only applications the blood sugar molecule, this also coats the insulin. Effectively, when the insulin is sprayed and the sugar is sprayed, it’s tough for the insulin to link up with the sugar. They don’t recognize each other. Not only
that, but the portal where sugar exits the blood becomes clogged with extra fat. Then, so it’s hard intended for sugar to get out yet again. Well, the blood sugar levels continue to rise, so dapoxetine and eventually more insulin are usually produced, and the insulin’s task is to find sugar. Therefore, eventually, it’s going to, but now there is twice as much or three times as much insulin in the bloodstream as they are supposed to be and eventually, your blood sugar crashes.
Kevin: This is because the blood sugar’s nevertheless high, and the insulin does not work out to find the sugar and companion it.
Doug: Ultimately, the insulin does discover the sugar, but it’s reduced at it, which must have been until the body thumps out a second and a third hurry of insulin.
Kevin: Correct.
Doug: Okay. Well, to be sure, with any muscle by the body processes, the key to training isn’t just training but also recovering. The things they call overload, overload repair cycle. This is the same for virtually any part of our body. You can create a tan by giving a little sunlight overload and then recover. You can develop calluses on your hands by giving a little work overburden using a rake or perhaps a shovel and then allow for healing. But if you take too much in a given time, there’s an accident, there’s a blister, there’s burning, or you will end up with what is known as a visceral failure. In the pancreas, visceral failing takes the form of diabetes, hypo and
hyperglycemia and other sugar metabolic disorders. The pancreas can no longer put out sufficient insulin because it has been putting out a lot of insulin repeatedly without ever getting a break. Since the average person is eating three-way, quadruple, five times, you know, body fat is recommended at every dinner. So the body never will get a break, and the pancreatic will eventually fail.
